Found Object: K-State IT Resources, 1998-1999

Location: Office of Senior Instructor Emerita Marcella Reekie
Object: “Welcome to K-State Computing” brochure, dated August 1998, and related flyers
Observations: 1) When she retired in 2022, Marcella Reekie left behind in her office a few items for recycling. Among the papers: brochures from K-State’s IT teams — known then as ITAC, the Information Technology Assistance Center, and CNS, Computing and Network Services — which outlined resources available to K-State faculty, staff, and students. “Welcome to K-State Computing,” pictured above and below, is a four-page overview for that combined audience. 2) While some of the names have changed — back in 1998, K-Staters were using a “computing ID” (now, an eID) and received “an e-mailbox” (now, an email account with an inbox and folders) that they could access in a campus “microcomputing” lab, a campus office, or by “dial-in” service on their landline telephone — the goal remains the same: providing students, faculty, and staff with access to and training for the technology resources they need to succeed. 3) What also remains the same 20+ years later: K-State IT’s commitment to service and support, including the Help Desk phone number.

4) Our thanks to K-State’s current IT teams as they work ensure a safe return to network resources across campus!
