From the Archive: Write. Shoot. Edit. Roll film!

Since our blog debuted in 2017, we have published 450+ posts.  While some of you may have been with us from the start (thank you, loyal readers!), others may have joined us more recently.

As a result, we’re highlighting some of the posts that have garnered a lot of views or that address topics of continuing interest in the current moment — posts that you may have missed or that you might want to revisit.

Today’s archival find: a post published in 2022 about the 48-Hour Film Challenge titled “Write. Shoot. Edit. Roll film!” by Professor Emeritus Katy Karlin.

Back in 2022, the 48-Hour Film Challenge was in its fifth year. Here in 2024, it’s celebrating its seventh year, and the contest is open for registration.

In her post, Katy Karlin outlines the structure of the annual event: “Each team has exactly 48 hours to write, cast, shoot, edit, and upload a short film of any genre. […] A week later, we will gather again for a red carpet event, during which we will find out who our expert panel of judges chose as our first and second-place winners. We will also screen all the entries and the audience will select an audience choice award.”

This year, the challenge launches on Friday March 22 at 5pm, concluding on Friday March 29 at 5pm with its red carpet screening and award celebration.

As a student team member reflects in a video about the challenge, “I’d say to those who have never participated in anything like this, just go for it, because that’s the best way to learn, that’s the best way to get involved.”

Enjoy Katy Karlin’s post “Write. Shoot. Edit. Roll film!” and follow its links for more information, including films from winning teams — and we’ll see you on the red carpet!
