Undergrad Student Spotlight: Elizabeth Stewart

Elizabeth Stewart (BA ’24)

My time at Kansas State University has been a journey filled with unexpected adventures, where the boundaries of an English degree are expanded into endless possibilities.

The Department of English at K-State provided me with an education that went beyond traditional methods. Starting with literature, I soon found myself exploring a vast landscape where the sound of pages turning echoed far outside the walls of the classroom.

One hidden gem within the realm of English is the world of Communications, where I delved into a career path combining my love for literature with visual expression that defies norms and expectations.

My journey at K-State also led me to discover a passion for social media management while working in the Department for Housing and Dining. As a social media manager, I engage with students on campus, capturing their stories and weaving them into compelling narratives. This unconventional career path showed me that there are endless opportunities available for those who think outside the box and embrace their unique journeys.

As a non-traditional student, my pursuit of academia became a testament to resilience and chasing passions despite societal expectations. In a world driven by profit, my English degree often felt like an elegy, but armed with poetic expression, I shattered myths about limited job prospects and revealed the boundless potential that lies within an English degree in our society.

For me, life is not about crunching numbers on a calculator; it’s about pursuing passions and making new discoveries along the way. The journey through English studies at K-State taught me that true happiness comes from following one’s passions. Success is no longer measured solely by monetary gain, but by finding fulfillment in dancing to the beat of one’s own heart.

The Department of English at Kansas State University opened a whole new world for me, intertwining my career goals with invigorated creativity. My degree from K-State serves as a catalyst for breaking barriers and reaching for new heights. Life, for me, is about constant discovery, and falling in love with all that this world has to offer.
