Observations: 1) Since 1998, K-State English has sponsored a chapter of the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta. Our chapter, Alpha Theta Eta, hosts one or two inductions each year for eligible students in English. The photo above shows one of those events. 2) Based on the students in the photo — Ellen Kuckelman (BA ’09), Megan Deppner (BA ’11, MA ’13), Mo Li (MA ’10), Rachel Parkin (BA ’10), and Kelsey Bates (BA ’09), for instance — this photo was probably taken to commemorate the Spring 2009 induction ceremony while Naomi Wood, as Director of Undergraduate Studies, was serving as the chapter’s advisor. 3) I’m so glad that we’ve made a point over the past 15+ years to capture a photo our new members, so we could celebrate their success — whether online during the pandemic or in person, such as last spring.
4) On Thursday February 15, Tom Sarmiento, our current Director of Undergraduate Studies, and I will welcome nine new members into our local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta. These nine students will join the 7,500 members inducted annually, according to the Society. Our congratulations to all on this accomplishment!
