Last Friday, February 6, Spot Fire Press held an Open House on the 3rd floor of Willard Hall.
Funded by an inaugural 2025 Applied Learning Experiences (ALE) Incentive Grant, Spot Fire Press is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Departments of Art, English, and Landscape Architecture and Regional and Community Planning, K-State Libraries, and University Printing. Through this collaboration, undergraduate students from these multiple disciplines work together with community and campus partners to design and publish creative works.
Even though the press only launched early last fall, the progress has been amazing, as the displays at Friday’s Open House demonstrated.
We saw tables filled with student-produced zines and prints as well as designs for upcoming commissions for community partners.

We saw Jason Scuilla, Professor of Art and Director of Spot Fire Press, demonstrating stamp designs to Kent Smith, Director of the Beach Museum of Art.

We saw hand-crafted designs for business cards and thank-you cards.

Each printed card bears the signature of its student creator, highlighting the human who made it.

As the back of the card explains, Spot Fire Press offers “Applied Learning that makes a lasting impression.”
We can’t wait to see what its students create next!
